About Berlin 2022
From 19 to 24 June 2022, up to 4,000 athletes will celebrate a festival of encounters in Berlin at the Special Olympics National Games Berlin 2022 together with their Unified Partners, Berliners, people from Germany, and citizens from all over the world. Thanks to intensive training, motivation and a love for sports, athletes of all levels have the chance to secure their starting place in 20 sports.
For Special Olympics Germany and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), these Games are an important milestone on the way to the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, the largest inclusive sports event in the world.
More than just a sporting event
The National Games go far beyond the sporting competitions. They are also a demonstration for more recognition and social participation of people with intellectual disabilities.
In June, the venues of the National Games Berlin 2022 will be the scene of rousing competitions of the highest intensity and effort. For the athletes, Berlin, with its modern sports facilities, offers the best conditions for fun and success.
In addition to the competitions in 20 sports, one can discover world-renowned sights and the extraordinary cultural offerings Berlin has to offer. There are also many places where one can wonderfully relax despite the hustle and bustle of the city. The National Games, with their extensive health and support programs, will be a great celebration of togetherness for people with and without disabilities in Berlin.
A milestone on the way to #Berlin2023
At the National Games, athletes can qualify for the Special Olympics World Games, which will be held for the first time in Germany in Berlin in June 2023. The National Games are also a milestone for the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the World Games. In total 13 international delegations will join the National Games - including Belgium, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Korea and the United States.
For the LOC, and up to 3,500 volunteers, the Special Olympics National Games Berlin 2022 are the kick-off for a globally unique sports event. The National Games will promote a more inclusive society. In Berlin, the city of diversity, this spirit will be permanently felt.
